Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; – Proverbs 3:5
Have you ever seen a toddler being thrown into air? He laughs because he knows his father will catch him. That’s TRUST.
When you go to your bed we have no assurance that we will wake tomorrow but we set our alarm clocks. That’s HOPE.
Do you TRUST in God’s word? Do you have HOPE in God’s promises? Well then, let your actions demonstrate such. As I summarized, Luke 6:46 begs deep thought on the question ‘Why should one call God your master yet he is not the one whose instructions you obey, trust and have hope in’. Many of us are trusting in ourselves. We trust in what we see as the way when doubt surfaces and ignore God’s words for righteous living. In John 14:15 Jesus says ‘if you love him we’ll keep his instructions’. Our Love is manifested by our willingness to Trust & obey. When we love someone, we want to spend frequent time with them, getting to know them better and listening to their every advise. We should let our love for God be demonstrated in our actions by spending time with God, his people and his word.
How can I develop Trust?
A toddler on the first throw may be startled but upon each successive throw gains confidence and admiration of the experience. We need more experiences where we allow God to be put to the test and we land safely in his arms (Psalm. 91:4). That won’t happen unless we begin walking by faith and not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7).
A race car driver develops assured reliance in his car that it can accelerate in time, handle a particular corner, drive the terrain of a race track because he got to know his car. He has had enough experience with his car to be assured of it’s power and capabilities. Similarly we need to allow God to work in our lives day by day. You will never truly know what God can and will do for you until you begin to have that personal relationship with him and develop testimonies of success.
Here are some simple steps to developing this trust.
- Pray and ask God for the strength to Trust.
Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. – Psalm 55:17
Many spend time battling negative thoughts of doubt. They just sit there all on their own under the weight of indecision. Listen! Speak to God. Spend time in daily devotion with God and you’ll be amazed at the confidence you will gather.
Now as you speak to him, why don’t you also listen to him?
- Spend time in God’s word
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. – Psalm 119:105
The word of God reveals who our Heavenly Father is. It reveals he is all powerful, all knowing and all present (Ps. 147:5). We have hundreds of written testimonies of those God has helped and delivered to be reassured that God can also do this for us (Heb. 11, Rom. 15:4).
- Listen to other active Christians who are Trusting God and being delivered
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. – Proverbs 13:20
Finally, there should be enough active present believers sharing their testimonies of God’s goodness in their lives. It’s an indictment on a congregation if we can’t find our own Heroes of Faith living among us. Develop the confidence to Trust in God by spending time with those who God has been blessing. The devil wants you to be distant from the church, filled with negative thoughts and doubt. Doubt & Negative thoughts are easy to be develop when we stay away from God’s people. The Devil wants you to keep tripping over the same mistake because of doubt.
