Why should I give a careful consideration to the question “Am I saved”? It’s not just because one does not want to be lost but because we may have a misunderstanding about what it means to believe in Jesus. Many are comfortable thinking that once I believe in an Almighty Being then all is fine.

Belief in God and prayer alone will not save us! James 2:19 tells us that even the Devil believes and trembles. So then what must we do other than just to believe?

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes

Romans: 1:16 tells us it is by the Gospel that we are saved! The first Gospel Sermon preached by the apostles of Christ is recorded in  Acts 2:37. After the people heard that our sins were the reason that Christ had to suffer a humiliating death on the Cross, they asked “What must we do?” In other words, they wanted to know how can we fix this? How can we be pardoned for the injustice that God’s only son had to die for us?

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

The apostle Peter gave the answer to the crowd as they contemplated their fate. The answer given in Acts 2:38 was “to repent and be baptized… for the forgiveness of your sins…”

Becoming a Christian begins with my  recognition of the fact that I am a sinner. It’s my  sins that  have separated me from God – Read: Isaiah 59:1-2., Romans .3:23

When I have realized this, I should be sorry about how my sins have separated me from God and I should be moved to want to stop sinning. This is called repentance! Read: Luke 13:3, 2 Corinthians. 7:10

I should confess my faith in Jesus as the son of God, realizing that if I stop practicing sin and allow Jesus to be Lord or controller of my Life that He will save and bless me – Read: Hebrews. 11:6, Romans 10:10

It is in baptism that I put on Christ and get in contact with his cleansing Blood. Read: Gal. 3:27, Romans. 6:3-4, 1 Pet 3:21, Acts 22:16

Finally, looking back at the people who listened to the first Gospel sermon, in Acts 2:41, those who accepted the Truth were baptized and added to the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15).
